Mercenary Costs
Currently the minimum price for an attack mercenary is 150.000
and there are no offers driving the price higher, often no one buys them at all
The minimum price for a defense mercenary is 125.000
and the price usually fluctuates between 127.000 and 135.000
Per year an attack mercenary costs:
25x48x365 = 438.000
+ base cost = 538.000
as a comparison:
a super soldier costs 100.000 unit price and 250.000 training price
it will ALWAYS cost you only 350.000 no matter how long you keep it.
a defense merc costs minimum
125.000 + 15x48x365 = 387.800
but if you keep both types of mercs for 3 years, it drives
the cost of attack merc to 1.314.000 + 150.000
the cost of defense merc to 788.400 + 125.000
in other words, currently mercs are now too expensive to have and people who buy them, do so, because they don't understand the game good enough or simply didnt make a calculation.
------------------------------------------------------
Furthermore attack mercs have been made much more costly in terms of base price and per turn cost because it has been believed that they live shorter, that someone builds them, masses someone and they are dead, having small turn cost, but a person who was the defender having paid much more for the defenders who might have lived half a year.
This isnt the case, since mercs can be obtained very slowly and they tend to live as long as defense mercs.
And again people with attack bonuses are put at a disadvantage.
------------------------------------------------------
Therefore I suggest decreasing the minimum price to 100.000 per mercenary (attack and defense) and the turn cost to 10 kuwal per mercenary and letting the market determine the price. If more people will want to buy them, price will rise, if less people want them, price will fall.
It should also be possible to have 1 merc per 1 soldier

Re: Mercenary Costs
they aren't expensive.
if you have 1 unit, you're better off to making it a farmer and buying a merc for the saved training costs
so then you have 1 unit that fights with the same power as a super and a bit of extra income on top of it, unless of course you're really low on ae so that 1 farmer produces less than what that strike merc costs you.
On the other hand, if your AE is so low, you most likely have the income to support it anyway.
smaller players benefit slightly more than larger players from this setup, but larger players make up for it by using stronger weapons which the small players can't afford

if you have small Administrative Efficiency, then owning mercs is useless.
they are more expensive than supers but die faster.
Furthermore there is even more costs as mercs decrease your administrative efficiency.
Since not many people are interesting to buy mercs at higher prices than minimum, it shows that mercs are being sold too expensive.

Re: Mercenary Costs
The game is still young, and our sizes still relatively small. To lower the prices now just means you will have to raise them later. I personally dont want to see big merc armies at this stage of the game. Loosing UU hurts right now, so I'm glad to see merc cost where they are to stop merc armies.
in time mercs will be super cheap and you will see more and more maximum merc armies.
