What are they, what do they do, what 'special powers' do they have (Can they see/do anything normal alliance members can't)
Just want to know.

Re: Alliance squads
allows the squads to communicate easier, you can message the entire squd, instead of the entire alliance. leader can see his squad members, thats about it.
You could make your own alliance to figure all this out mate

So is a squad leader similar to a commander? or is there a more pronounced difference between the two? sorry just trying to work out the chain of command?

A commander, is a direct link and they have a special relationship which consists of UU and kewal being passed between them automaticly.
Squad leaders have no such relationship,
You can have anyone under any alliance as a commander, but you have to but in the alliance to be in a squad.
As for chain of command as to who outranks who with direct orders, I assume you should follow your own alliances protocall.
