What's your first impression?
Wargame: European Escalation - Only Today only 9.99 on Steam! 2ND OFFER!
Guys hurry up, Wargame: European Escalation is now 75% off at Steam! Only for 9.99 instead of 39.99.
I bought the game, and if you are interested, let me know, and we can play online.
Eliminating hidden opposition
If you like realistic strategy games, then you should definitely get Wargame: European Escalation
The game has parallels to World in Conflict, except that it is much more realistic, involves more units and more unit types, firing at realistic ranges, on much bigger maps.
Also the game doesn't require as much micromanagement like most games, so you dont have to outclick your opponent, you have to outsmart him. The whole interface and game mechanics allow you to control vast armies efficiently.
In this game recon, morale and supply lines are crucial, without making it too complex. If you liked World in Conflict, or RUSE, you will love this one!
You also can use forests and hills for cover, use roads to advance faster to the frontlines, as well as place units along supply lines to ambush the enemy.
Instead of chosing one role you wish to use, like you did in World in Conflict, here you start with a number of points which you can allocate on any units you have chosen in your deck. The possibilities are endless!
The game is set between 1975 and 1985, with Warsaw Pact and Nato at war and features over 350 units from 8 countries: USA, UK, France, West-Germany, East-Germany, Czechoslovakia, Poland and Soviet Union.
You can set up various decks, which you will use in battle. A deck has either units from Nato or from Warsaw Pact, and you can select up to 25 unit types, with up to 5 per role. There are 7 roles:
Logistics: include FOB, command vehicles (can capture sectors that earn you income for more units), and supply trucks, or supply helicopters (rearm and repair your units)
Recon: Recon vehicles, Recon IFV and Recon helicopters (have a better sight than most units and detect units)
Tank: various models of tanks (prices vary a lot with 15 credits for a obsolete T-55 and over 150 for a modernised T-80. Nato tanks include Abrams tanks, Challengers, Leopards and AMX, but also older types such as Patton. Nato tanks have better stabilisers than WP tanks, however WP tends to mount ATGM wherever possible)
Infantry: various infantry including special forces and recon infantry, all infantry come in transports, either APC, IFV or heli transports
Support: Anti Air and artillery units (Long range SAM systems are really long range, and artilleries can fire over the whole map with devastating effect albeit somewhat innacurate)
Vehicle: Mostly IFV and units with ATGM. Often weakly armed, but efficient at taking out well armored opponents at long range (keep well supplied)
Helo: Recon, Transport and military helicopters. You will find anything your heart desires, be it Apache, Cobra, Mi-24 or Mi-28 or any other of the dozens of helicopters available.
While the name of the game might not be very original, and the cold war theme has been often used, you should not underestimate this title. This is an amazing game.

I looked it up on Steam, looks good.
Just one question: you mentioned a deck. Does that mean the available units are represented on in-game playing cards or something?

Offer ends in 3 hours
No. There are no cards. It's just an expression the game uses for a group of 25 unit types that you can send into battle. You can create unlimited number of decks with up to 25 unit types each, but you always use only a single deck in battle.
I did buy an additional game which I keep in my inventory, so that later I can use it to play on lan with my wife, or with friends on a lan party. I am thinking if I should buy one more.

I provided my own, been mucking about in the basic campaign.
Shouldn't have gone for the secondary objective.

I heard the campaign will get hard in the later missions, and you need real skill to beat that. Didn't get that far myself, so I don't know what expects me.
Let me know when you feel ready to play together. I am new to this game myself.

Knowing Steam, I'd guess during Christmas (or Halloween, or a similar event).

I accepted you on steam and added you also ingame.
I havent fought online battles against people until yesterday. But in the last 2 days I fought many and it was intense and awesome!
I especially love those games where the enemy is winning, gaining ground, until we manage to turn the tide and defeat the enemy (which usually happens when the enemy gets overconfident, or we expose and take advantage of a weakness in his defense).
In those 2 days I have seen so many things happen already:
Players who spam arties to shell you to smithereens, but keep sparse and weak ground forces, which allow you to penetrate deep into their territory and take out those Command Vehicles and other high value targets.
Players who spam helicopters and get more and more confident with each kill, sending their helicopter squadrons straight in the arms of newly positioned SAM batteries.
Players who manage to land their special forces with their helicopters in your home sector and even manage to take over all Forward Operating Bases in that sector after heavy fighting and heavy casualties, losing all helicopters, which were the bulk of their forces, only to suffer the same fate at the same time in their home sector, which cuts their reinforcements from that side, while reinforcements from their other sector is blocked as we have set up ambush positions destroying any units that arrive, while ours keep flowing, as we have captured a sector of our own, ultimately winning the game.
Players who throw all their forces at you at once, in a win or lose scenario, hoping to overwhelm you in a massive assault, but they assault you, where you would most likely expect them, and while they are stronger and engage your units that were waiting for them, you shell them with your fire support, wiping out or panicking their already stressed out units and sending forces in other areas to take more ground and ultimately taking over the whole map with little resistance.
But there were also games, where we were winning, and the tables turned and in the end we suffered defeat. Those are interesting too, and one can learn a lot from them, especially if the replays are saved and the strategy of the enemy is studied so that one doesn't repeat his mistakes and learns to exploit the weaknesses of others more efficiently.
