Illegal Characters
Hi admin. This question is for you. What are the illegal characters for the alliance name? I know that spaces are illegal but span style seems to work, even though it has a space in between it. Is there a way you could make it to where blur/glow codes or maybe even multi shadow codes work please .

Well I'm sorry I don't type correctly 100% of the time .
What I meant to ask was can you fix it so that I can use glow/blur codes in the alliance name?

Re: Illegal Characters
the only parameters disallowed in names are visibility:hidden, display:none and anything related to font-size
other than that, any space that is within the style="" will result in an error message

Re: Illegal Characters
I changed TIE name, I copied the code that was there and now its not working.
It did have some font-size items in it but I took them out and it still fails.
Edit
I did get it to work.
The blur and text shadow that you want to do KoS, can't be done now. Admin took away the spaces that we once could use.

Re: Illegal Characters
I had no idea we could use spaces..ever lol. Jeez. I was just hoping to make the battlefield look a little cooler Can you temporarily enable spaces for a little while and see how it works out? As long as it doesn't get out of control, I don't see why not

Re: Illegal Characters
tbh I don't think spaces would help.
I not sure what is going on but something just isn't liked.

Re: Illegal Characters
The code that king wants to use for the blur effect that he has in his MOTD requires a space in the coding. We can have shadow text shifted on the x and y axis without using any spacing but the css code requires a space if you want the blurred effect. Also if a space was allowed it would make it so people dont need to use _ or . in between their alliance name which looks sorta silly
I dont know why the space is an illegal character but I assume admin has a logical reason for it. Perhaps admin could do some sort of manual entry for certain alliances that want a strange character in their alliance name if he is willing. Like a special requests section that admin approves things before they can be posted ingame.

Re: Illegal Characters
vesper, spaces are bad for your health, that's why they are disallowed.
HTML renders spaces always as 1 space, no matter how many you put in, you can try it yourself.
And allowing it would cause problems which many people would whine about, so the sole purpose is security, not any random mood swings.
I could write an alliance name like The Genesis, with 2 spaces in between. The name check would say it's ok, because 2 spaces are not equal to one space. But every time it would get displayed on pages, it would show up as 1 space.
I can almost certainly promise that more parameters will get disallowed in the future. But since I dont know all of them so I dont know what is possible to display with them, I can only wait for people to use them.
I have left the MOTD mostly untouched by these restrictions because the chance for damage is less. However should cases of abuse start popping up, then the situation might change.

Re: Illegal Characters
Would it be possible to allow spaces for things such as font-type?
Theres only a few that don't have spaces and are mostly being used now, trying to be different.
Maybe a way to use 'bbcode' where you set it so we can use some special item and it creates the space for us?

Re: Illegal Characters
bbcode is nothing but one line of code telling which strings of text to look for in the entered message and to convert those into specific html code
The extreme scenario will arise if I see abuses and I will simply make a whitelist instead of the current blacklist. You can certainly imagine what that would mean for the more "creative" (in the good and honest sense of the word) people
and I disallowed entering the space not because I am worried about users putting it in, it's because of the output that could be generated. Your suggestion defeats that purpose

Re: Illegal Characters
I found a way to do what I am looking for but it is a 'creative' way of doing it.
many of the 'creative' things I was playing with on a html file on my PC doesn't need a space. I think a white list would be the best option for you tbh.

Re: Illegal Characters
Any chance of making font size legal ?
I really like The Edwardian Script text for the alliance name , but the problem is it shows up very small .
maybe something like , max size of alliance font size is 2.5 times bigger then normal .
