Re: Question
weapon dealers can be opened through the armory page
you can buy any weapons which have been previously sold by other players.
by the way, MLRS is usually so overpriced that it makes no sense buying it, buying uu and mobile artillery makes more sense as its much cheaper than buying MLRS. (By buying I mean buying from weapon dealers, building yourself of course is much better.)

Re: Question
It does however raise an interesting contradiction.
To be able to build different weapons you have to carry out research. This would tend to mean that you can only build and maintain weapons that your weapons factory are capable of producing.
However you are able to purchase weapons of levels greater than you can produce from the weapons dealer and also maintain them.
Perhaps a more logical solution would be that weapons of a level greater than you can produce cannot be maintained either. As a result of the lack of maintenance they deteriorate and therefor become less efficient, more prone to malfunction and more easily destroyed.
This would encourage players to invest more in research and production of their own weapons. Leaving MLRS out of the situation there are plenty of other weapons available that are not really that much greater in price than they are to produce

I agree here, but Admin let it be known that he had his reasons for allowing this, I do not know what they are tho...

Re: Question
cos you usually pay a higher % than if you'd build it yourself, yes you get it instantly but then again you can only buy as far as supply goes
Re: Question
so weapondry upgrades are basicly a waste of income and no investment since you will always be able to buy the second best weapons in the game.
But whatever. Its not THAT big a deal.

During war there is only limited supply of weapons. I noticed in one of the previous wars that while during peace time mobile artillery was priced at 120%, during war it cost over 200%. And at 200% it is a better idea to build tanks yourself instead.

Re: Question
Thats only if "you" are involved in the war.
If you stay low and refuse to fight you will never need a weapon level enhancement.

How about we look at real life examples.
Saudia Arabia has American M1A1 Abrams tanks in its arsenal. They are able to maintain them, but they don't produce them, and most likely can not.
And look at military jets and other military aircraft. They have complex technology and while all countries have them, only few countries. are capable of producing sophisticated ones.
Venezuela for example bought Mig's and Mi-24 assault helicopters. They can maintain them, but surely they are incapable of building them.

Valid points to a degree. In real life we find many countries who buy weaponry they are unable to produce themselves (I would not go so far as to say incapable). However I believe the you will also find that they also have to buy many of the components as well to be able to maintain them. Also you will find that while a country may purchase and arm all of it's soldiers with the basic weaponry it's a much different story when more advanced weaponry is utilized. They also do not buy these amounts of weapons on the black market.
There are many options that could be explored and perhaps one could be that weapons upkeep is higher for weapons you cannot produce yourself to reflect the fact that you will also need to purchase components.
Also one could infer from your example that you are making a case that would support trading of weapons between players in addition to the black market.

Re: Question
Is it that big a problem? I like the fact that you can decide whether you want to invest in weapons tech or buy the weapons at outrageous prices.
The larger your army grows (or the more you fight), the more lucrative it becomes to build the weapons yourself.

How right you are
I think the arms dealer helps small players the most, because they are able to build a efficient standing army at little cost, and as they grow they will need bigger armies, and military research will become more important.

It is for me... here's the deal, according to two different Nat Geo specials that I have watched over the last couple of years, the guerrilla fighters they were talking about maintained nothing, they either did not have the know how or the funds, they used the weapons till they (A) ran out of ammo, (B) broke or wore out from non maintainance, then just threw them on the ground & walked away... now it would seem to me that the same would hold true in this game, that without the weapons research to build & maintain the weapons, then the weapons would corrode & break in X amount of time, but then again this is only my opinion, & I just play this game...

Re: Question
I think you also have to look at certain things, like present "level" of technology.
Could a guy with a pistol figure out how to use a machine gun? yeah sure.
Could a guy only capable of making a knife fly a helicopter? no way.
I think its stupid. I can see buying weapons 2 maybe 3 levels higher then you can make, but not 10 levels higher.
But I'm fine with it either way.
