Tooltips
Just read this on the sgw origins section, about adding tooltips.
Will also work on adding it into the game, will be much more useful than having a few pages dedicated to explaining all features as many can agree.
And will be also more newbie friendly.
i'll work on it next weekend though, examing incoming next week

Re: Tooltips
i dunno if i'll want to bother with that cos basically i'd need to put an "if" statement at every question mark lol
just build a filter into your eyes to automatically ignore them

Re: Tooltips
Anyone with display errors just try reloading the page with F5
Also internet explorer 7 seems to have a problem with displaying it correctly, if the other versions have a problem too then it's time to move onto more user friendly browsers like Opera or Firefox
I`m not going to switch to any of 2nd hand, crapy browsers and tbh, it`s not proffesional to put such a message.
The tips were hidden 1 hour ago (about 9:00-9:20 game time) and apeared only on the mouse over. Undo to that and everything will be allright.
Or you could add an option to allow/disallow tooltips.

Re: Tooltips
and considering the security flaws of IE plus coupled with the fact that FF is used more (at least on AW) than any other browser doesn't really give it credibility as "2nd hand, crapy browsers"chaos wrote:firefox is one of best browsers around, and it was created by hackers

it now has a 20% market share
IE is shit and crap ( and so is google chrome, buts thats not the point )
Firefox, safari, opera, netscape are all great alternatives or better choices to IE.

Re: Tooltips
It`s more advertising, for FF than it deserves.
And its not that "user friendly" as some may think...
Plus that at the old "machines", like the one that i`m using for internet games, FF and Opera become very slow after awhile.
But everyone is entited to his opinion, right?

Re: Tooltips
Haven't used ie in the last decade except in the very few cases where the computer i was on had no other option, each time i had to use it, it annoyed the hell out of me because of its slowness and horrible GUINigatsu_Aka wrote:It`s more advertising, for FF than it deserves.

and the "old machines" you talk about , sorta like since Win 95, and back then i appreciated mozilla far more than ie.
well you know what they say about opinionsNigatsu_Aka wrote:But everyone is entited to his opinion, right?
the are like buttholes, everyone has one
so yeah, can't get rid of opinions, they will always be there
Re: Tooltips
Yes... you can`t get rid of them. lol
For browsing, I find Opera and FF pretty fast compared with IE... but not for gaming, because they distort the page almost on every load, until it fully loads (and that is very annoying); on FF, you can`t use the "back" key as fast as in IE because you have to wait to load every "back page" and Opera is not that good, because it isn`t refreshing the data. These are some of the inconveniences for not using FF and Opera for gaming.
Before IE7 apeared, i used Opera and before IE6 i used Netscape Navigator, which was at that time like a jump from stoneage to space age.
Every browser has its advantages and disadvatages. For me a good browser it`s a simple browser. Chrome is simple, but it sucks on speed.

Re: Tooltips
well tbh i prefer opera BECAUSE it doesn't refresh the data, it keeps all the input in the tables if you go back the pages, helps a ton in these kind of games
i.e. keep the amount of at's or spies in the tab so that you don't have to input it over and over again
plus you have a mouse shortcut to go back and forward in the pages you visited, major advantage imo.
plus the load thing you can adjust easily on opera at least, on ff i didn't look around

Re: Tooltips
Ok, resolved all issues.
And seriously whoever pulls out the "crappy browser" card again, i'm really gonna go ballistic and take out teh banhammer lol
Edit: I got it tested under IE 6 and it displays everything correctly. Apparently IE 7 has some issues though, and not sure what the situation will be with IE 8.

Re: Tooltips
well you can also try reverting to IE 6. that one displays the tooltips (fairly) correctly (but still has some issues, i.e. dropbox appears above the text hindering reading)
Re: Tooltips
The tooltips are working fine for me... under IE7

Re: Tooltips
I got at least one person with IE 7 saying it doesn't work, so dunno.
Edit: IE 7 confirmed to definitely work
Most Definitely Working versions:
Opera 9.63
FF 1.5.0.2
FF 3.0.5
IE 6
IE 7
Just press F5 to clear the cache and reload the page if you keep having problems
