R.U.S.E. Empty R.U.S.E.

In R.U.S.E. units have fairly realistic ranges of their weapons. Katyusha is medium range artillery. Long range artillery shoots about 50% further.

Why is this game awesome:
RUSE is an extremely underrated game. The packaging makes it look like it's just another WW2 game, but actually it is a revolutionary game, not only in its concept but also in terms of realism. I personally prefer when units can fight at realistic ranges, ie soldiers range 250 meters, tanks 1 kilometers, artillery 10 kilometers. Unfortunately in most games soldiers have a range of 25 meters, tanks 50 meters and artillery 100 meters. That sucks. The limit exists in most games, because it's much easier to control units, if their range fits in one screen, however in R.U.S.E. you can zoom in and zoom out with the mousewheel, you can zoom out all the way to see the whole map that spans many kilometres, and zoom in to see units from a soldiers perspective.

The game also brings a new concept to RTS games, namely the use of RUSES, which you use to deceive the enemy.

Game Type:
You start with an HQ and can send out trucks which will capture supply depots (that send trucks to your HQ to increase your funds) and you can also build buildings that allow you to build and research different types of units (Barracks, Armory for tanks, Artillery & AntiAir base, Anti Tank base, Airfield, Prototype base) and also defense buildings, such as bunkers, AT positions, artillery or AA positions. You can also chose the tech level that is reachable. There is 1939, 1942 and 1945.

Factions:
You can play for USSR, USA, UK, France, Germany, Italy and with a DLC for Japan. Every faction has its strengths and weaknesses. For the sake of balancing the factions, countries that were not especially technologically advanced are wielding also units, which never entered mass production, and even prototypes that never saw service in war.

AI:
The AI is pretty good in this game (compared to average RTS games). Playing on hard offers good challenge, but after some time it will fail to surprise you. You can also create interesting games by assigning certain profiles to AI such as Balanced, Rush, Turtle, Air, Prototype (AI focuses on advancing research and attacking you with his best units in late game). The AI will even attempt to flank you sometimes.

Multiplayer:
Multiplayer offers a lot of interesting games. In general human players are easier to play against than hard computer (as hard computer gets some fund boost at the start of the game). Games where you play with allies are the most common (2v2 3v3 and 4v4).

+ You can zoom out to see the whole map and zoom in to troop level allowing you to grasp the battle situation across the whole front line.
+ Units have realistic ranges (artillery can fire across half the map)
+ Destructible environment (cities and forests can be burned to the ground, massed artillery can dot the ground like a moon surface)
+ new concept of RUSE cards (trick the enemy by faking offensives with fake units, deceiving the enemy about the type of units you place, hide your units or buildings on the map, spy...)
+ Your units are not retards and thanks to the large ranges you don't need to waste much time on micromanagement

o Fairly fast pased games. Games last usually 20-40 minutes. Sometimes they will drag out beyond an hour.
- The AI could provide more surprises and flanking maneuvers.
- Noticable low number of players in multiplayer. Usually only 3-8 games you can join to.

As you zoom out, your units will be represented by chips, and you can command your troops even in strategic view.
(Screeenshot from my first game, hence the easy enemies.)
