Deleting game account
I don't really know where to put this post so I put it here. This a system suggestion, not game suggestion.
It is too easy to get game accounts deleted. There is no confirmation or some other thing to protect an account. I think account deletion should be confirmed by e-mail and wait for 7 days after confirmation before the account is actually deleted.

Re: Deleting game account
Isn't there a check box? (I thought there was but may be wrong)
I agree no accidental deletions should be possible, but there are 2 problems with your suggestion. 1 is many people use emails they never check, or even lose access to so a email confirmation is a bad idea. 2 is when people do want to quit they want to quit right then, not 7 days later.
Overall I do agree with protecting against accidental deletion .

Re: Deleting game account
here is my experience, when RA came online, I wanted to delete my RA acct as I have no desire to play RA. so as soon as I was able, I did so. & I can say this.
there is no way to "accidentally" delete your acct. you have a 2 step process where you are asked to confirm your wish to delete your acct. if you click that button, you are deleting your acct on purpose with full knowledge of what is happening.

Re: Deleting game account
Please don't forget that there is something called "account being hacked" and "someone try to make fun of you, but in a really bad way".
And for "wait for 7 days" I mean the account will stay there for 7 days after clicking the delete button, and within the 7 day period you can cancel the deletion.

Re: Deleting game account
I think that moky's question requires an answer from Admin as he is raising a valid concern. The question is not about implementing moky's suggestion rather it's as follows.
Admin, is it possible for you to reactivate a deleted account ?

when put in the perspective of an acct being hacked, it is an entirely different scenario than someone going to the "account settings" page & clicking the delete button "accidentally". the two are different & I agree that the point is a valid one.
Manleva is correct, admin will have to answer this.

Re: Deleting game account
He is right. Deleting the account is so easy that anyone who manages to log into your account could delete it on the spot! This can be especially dangerous if you don't log out your account in an internet cafe, or in a school.
You should confirm deletion at least by logging into your email and confirming it there, to lower the risk of someone else deleting it.

Re: Deleting game account
Yeah, I been in SGW since 06 and have not had access to that email account for 3 or 4 yrs now LOL.
Hacks are always handled differently/ manually anyway. I would assume there has to be a back up done every so often, and a deleted account could be renewed from there.

Re: Deleting game account
account deletion is a 3 step process
you click delete link => asks for a yes/no confirmation => deletes account
also accounts get deleted which means it does exactly that, delete it.
This isn't facebook where accounts get "deactivated"
consequently there is no "easy" way of "reactivating" other than as nomad explained I'd copy whatever data I had saved on your last backup.
Needless to say I wouldn't be very amused if someone tried something stupid like massing someone/sending resources away, deleting account and asking for recovery to get resources back

Re: Deleting game account
So what about the answer to the other questions?
Do you think 3 buttons is enough for both confirmation purpose and also security purpose?
Will you do something to prevent account hackers from deleting other players' accounts?
Sorry but I don't seem to find the answer to these questions.

whoever gets into your account which needs a secret password and email address no one knows, can probably get into your account anyway aswell as your email account or whatever other security measure one would implement

While I totally agree that there are more than enough steps in the Deletion process to prevent accidental deletion I do find the fact that accounts are actually deleted rather than made inactive and removed from view to be rather odd.
I make these comments not because of any comparison to Facebook but rather in comparison to the more common design of databases where it is the usual practice to retain this data for auditing processes. It sounds to like you have no ability to look at the actions that may have been undertaken by an account once it is deleted which I would have thought would have been an important security measure

Re: Deleting game account
ehm dont mistake account data with account activity i.e. logs
users can't delete activity
users can't delete activity
Re: Deleting game account
So you mean you can check if the account is logged in from another IP, and so you know if an account is deleted by a hacker or not, did I get it correct?Admin wrote:ehm dont mistake account data with account activity i.e. logs

Then what if someone delete a player's account when the player himself/herself is away from the computer? I'm sure you are unable to check if it is the player who delete the account or not. Based on what you said before, you are very unlikely to help such players to recover the data. Instead of recovering data, why don't you do more to protect the data?

Re: Deleting game account
Sorry, no i'm not. The game is not advanced enough to hack into any (non-)existing camera you have mounted at your computer and use face recognition algorithms to determine whether the person who just deleted the account from that same computer is the real owner or someone else who used the computer while the real owner went afk and forgot to log outmoky wrote:Then what if someone delete a player's account when the player himself/herself is away from the computer? are you just wasting my time or actually being serious?
never said that, nor did I ever refuse to recover someone's account after they had deleted it, you should learn to read more carefullymoky wrote:Based on what you said before, you are very unlikely to help such players to recover the data.
