Sweet more Images
This has to be the BEST thing ever added to the game. This is great for players on cell phones or players that have Capped limits on the amount of bandwidth that is allowed.
Yes I know these images are small, and don't take much, but its MORE then the text that loaded before.
Kenzu you asked be able it before. I told you that even thou the page doesn't look like it loads, it does every single time. Also cellphones don't used caches like your PCs do.
I give this update an A+ in wtf.

We are planning to have a version completely reworked for mobile phones without ANY pictures at all, and having the layout compact so that it is optimised for phones.

I guess this means you want a button to turn off all images, right?

Re: Sweet more Images
any way you can make it so logging in on the plain log in activates that option?
so logging in on pc = all icons work
logging in on plain log in form from phone disables all pic icons
is that even possible? (or something similar)

Well you misunderstood my 25GB per month is only for my PHONE when i use that for surfing.
My own 500/500MB connection on my PC is 100% no quota on i can do what ever i want heck i think i already this month used for 300GB by now if that can do it.

Re: Sweet more Images
it can be done in a number of ways. it's easy to make so that it'd work "somehow".Nomad wrote:any way you can make it so logging in on the plain log in activates that option?

I can't think of a non-ugly way, off the top of my head, to do it, but I am sure there's plenty of good ways to do it if i give it some thought and/or searching for ideas.
Ugly way meaning each image that gets loaded on any page needs to check a variable that gets written when you login.
Total time required for implementation of ugly way: ~1 Hour
Re: Sweet more Images
Why would you do that admin?
Why not have a line of code(or lines) that detect what brower is being used, and then have it load a differetn css for images.
I say move all images to a css file.
then use(this is rather simple)
if($mobile = true){
$css = mobile.css;
}else{
$css = normal.css;
}
Then just add $css to the headers like you normaly would.
You could MAYBE use a session variable that way it doesn't run on every page.

Re: Sweet more Images
Here is the code used on a phpBB3 forum that forces it to use the mobile theme they put up.
I am sure that $user_browser is a script I would have to find.

Re: Sweet more Images
hey i never said there's not better options, just the css one would take more than 1 hour to setup since it involves a lot more work, as I said what i suggested was more of a "works as an idea but if you actually do it then you should better not run a website".
Basically answering nomad's question saying that it's easily possible to do.
anyways the post was on the fly, i'm now back from my exam, think the result sink like the titanic but whatever.
though thx for the css suggestion, saves me the time looking for it.
still i'm not a fan of "check for a phone type out of a rather extensive list".
quite the crappy way of doing it imho but so far i haven't found anything better.

Lol actually your check if its a phone should only be run on main login page.
And from there do the rest that way you don't have to do much as what you could do if the check sees it's a mobile phone redirect the user to mobile login and mobile version of the game.
Many big places doese that. The second they see its a phone your link are moved to their mobile homepage.
Would mean less programming for you sort of and also means better use for mobiles.

I am quite well aware that many sites do it, I just said i'm not a big fan of it because it's something that will need updating every now and thenNimras wrote:

If there'd be something simple and universal like a $_server variable having an extra phone binary value 0 or 1. Now that'd be something to consider adding in the next php version upgrade.
something smarter might be to write a dynamically updating list that each time someone loggs in with a device/browser that isn't in the system yet the user will get a message asking them to enter if it's a normal browser or a phone.
If a new device comes on the market that isn't on the current list, the user will simply login the first time, get that message, designate it as computer or mobile and then will always keep that setting for them as well as all other users.
obviously what it would require then is for users to be able to designate also individual settings, maybe someone has a mobile but still wants to have it work as a fully functional computer browser.
so there goes another check that if you login the first time the system will tell you something like "currently the device you are using is logged as a mobile device. Do you wish to have your pages displayed using this device as a normal computer browser or a bandwidth saving mobile layout."
That and the fact that anytime you'd be able to go into your account preferences and have another setting where you can always reverse your decision with the device you're currently using
there's plenty of ways to do it, all i'm saying is that using an exhaustive list is something i'm not a fan of because it has by its very nature a rather significant design flaw.

Well not really,
All phones own browser plus Opera Mini and the bigger smartphone versions all tells a homepage they are a phone browser.
Unless you remove that which not many people know how.
Which means you just need to check for that send.
but yes who said it was easy done whats the fun in that?
